Five Star Electric, Representative for ASIRobicon Selected to Supply Motor/Generator Drive Systems for Qatargas II Liquefied Natural Gas Project

New Kensington, Pa. Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil have selected ASIRobicon to supply variable frequency drive (VFD) systems and motor/generators for the Qatargas II Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) Expansion Project. Qatargas II, currently the world's largest LNG project, will also feature the world's largest trains for LNG production.

ASIRobicon VFD systems and motor/generators will be used for start-up/helper and power generation operation and will be applied to three MS9001E gas turbine-driven compression strings, supplied by GE Oil & Gas - Nuovo Pignone, a unit of GE Power Systems. The VFD systems will be manufactured at ASIRobicon's New Kensington, Pa. facility and the motor/generators will be manufactured at the Company's Monfalcone, Italy plant.

Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil and Nuovo Pignone selected ASIRobicon to supply the VFD systems and motor/generators for the Qatargas II project following extensive review of globally available industrial power control technology. ASIRobicon's equipment provided the features and operating profile needed to assure continuous operation of the LNG trains for a minimum of three years, without system failure or maintenance down time.

Located in Qatar, Ras Laffan Industrial City, each Qatargas II liquefaction train will be rated for an annual capacity of approximately 7.8 million tons. When completed in 2007, the joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (70%) and ExxonMobil (30%) will supply LNG to the United Kingdom, helping to alleviate the current natural gas shortage.

"Large-scale LNG production is critical to meeting the world's energy needs and we're proud to play a role in the Qatargas II project," said Gary Rauscher, president of ASIRobicon. "Our participation in Qatargas II positions us as the world leader in drive and motor design for LNG compressor applications."
